Q: How do I get my registration packet for race weekend?
A: Packets, race numbers and timing chips are available at packet pickup. Early packet pickup is available on Thursday (3 p.m. – 7 p.m.) located at Old Mill District in the space next to Jimmy John's (330 Southwest Powerhouse Drive, Bend, OR 97702). Main packet pickup will be at the same location on Friday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Packet pickup is not available the day of the race.

A: The water temperature is expected to be in the low 60s.

Q: Are wetsuits allowed?
A: Wetsuits are allowed and encouraged for this event. Neoprene caps are allowed. Race issued, colored swim cap must be worn over a neoprene cap. Neoprene swim booties are allowed, provided that nothing about the bootie provides additional propulsion.

Q: When must I set up my transition areas?
A: Friday morning between 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. transition areas will be open for setup. T1 is at Cultus Lake and T2 at the Old Mill District, across the footbridge from the finish.
*All athletes must set up T1 and T2 during this time. All bikes must be in transition by 7 p.m. on Friday. No exceptions. Transition areas will be patrolled all evening by a contracted, professional security team. Athletes are recommended to set up T2 by Friday evening but It will be open to athletes on race morning.*

Q: How will I get to the swim start on race morning?
A: Shuttle buses will start at 4:30 a.m. on Saturday. The pickup is located at the old Mt. Bachelor Park-n-Ride located at 50 SW Shevlin Hixon Dr., Bend, OR 97702 and only a couple of blocks away from T2. This is also the parking area for athletes as well as spectators. Please refer to your packet for the shuttle pickup location map and schedule.

Q: Can members of a relay team pick up all of their team members packets? Can I pick up my friend's packet?
A: Every participant must pick up their own packet. At pick up they must provide a photo ID and a current USAT license. Team members are not allowed to pick up for other team members.

Q: Do I have to wear the wrist band given to me at packet pickup?
A: Yes, all participants are required to wear the wristband. Race staff will put these on your wrist when you pick up your packet. This will serve as your identification for entering the transition area Saturday morning and ensure the security of retrieving your bike and gear bag after the race. An additional wristband is issued to all participants, which may be given to a spouse, other family member or friend. This wristband will give that person permission to retrieve your items from gear bag recovery and/or bike from transition.

Q: Do I have to wear the swim cap?
A: Yes, the swim cap MUST be worn. The color given to each athlete is specific to your wave, so do not switch colors.

Q: Will there be toilets on the bike and run courses?
A: Yes, there will be portable toilets inside transition, at bike aid stations and at every mile on the run.

Q: What can athletes expect on the race course for aid stations?
A: To provide consistent support and safety for all athletes, there will be supported aid stations every ten miles on the bike course and every mile on the run, stocked with various food and drink, including water, HEED, Endurolytes, Hammer Gel, fruit and salty snacks. There will be a portable toilet at every aid station and mile markers every 10 miles on the bike and every ½ mile on the run.

Q: Will we have the opportunity to have a Special Needs Bag?
A: Yes. All Epic 250 athletes only, will receive an additional bag with a # sticker that corresponds with your bib # in your packet. This bag will be located at mile 70 on the bike course. Athletes may use this bag to include any items that they may need and/or want out on the bike course. All bags must be dropped off on race morning at the shuttle bus pickup, next to the post-race gear bag drop. Do not mix them up.

Q: Where is the best place for spectators to watch the race?
A: At the Old Mill District, which is home to the bike to run transition and finish line. No spectators will be allowed to drive to the swim start. There will be absolutely no parking for any vehicles at the swim start and zero tolerance for vehicles that attempt to park illegally. Spectators may sign up for transportation to the swim start at Cultus Lake at packet pickup. A ticket will be given for a LeadmanTri-provided shuttle bus. We discourage spectators/family members from following athletes out to the bike course. It’s already a challenge for the athletes to be involved in the energy of the race without additional cars and/or distractions on the bike course.

Q: What is the minimum age to participate in the Leadman Tri Life Time Epic, Bend?
A: All athletes must be at least 16 years old to participate in this event. All athletes under 18 must have a parental/guardian waiver signed. These are available at packet pickup.

Q: Are there athlete clothing requirements for the race?
A: Yes. All athletes must wear a top during the bike and run portion of the race and it must be pulled over the shoulders.

Q: Are headphones allowed anywhere on the course?
A: No headphones, music or audible devices are allowed on the course at any time during the race. Penalties will be accessed, up to and possibly including the athlete’s full disqualification.

Q: Is this event chip timed?
A: Yes. Timing chips will be issued at packet pickup. Chips must remain on the athlete’s ankle for the duration of the event. No Chip = No Time. Athletes are fully responsible for the security of their own chip. If you lose your chip during the swim, please tell a race official before getting on the bike! All chips must be returned at the finish. Volunteers will remove your chip after you cross the finish line.

Q: Will there be a post race gear drop on race morning?
A: Yes, athletes will be issued a drawstring bag with their race number on it at packet pickup. Please place items in this bag that you would like to have at the finish line (i.e. change of clothes, a favorite recovery drink, etc.). There will be a “bag drop” at the shuttle bus pickup on race morning. These bags will be transported by event staff to a secure, pickup area located at the finish line.

Q: When and where is the awards ceremony?
A: The awards ceremony will be held on Sunday at 10 a.m. at the River House Convention Center in Bend. Awards for professionals and age groupers will be presented along with a continental breakfast for all athletes provided by Life Time. See your race packet for the River House location.
